5 Tips For Styling A Console Table

A console table is a hugely versatile piece of furniture that when styled well can flawlessly finish off your space. A console table will add personality and style to your home. The typically slim proportions will help your table serve as a great accent piece for a hard to fill area. A console table will also act as a practical addition to your décor through offering storage or a place to create light in the home.

We stock timber consoles and glass top consoles, mirrored consoles or consoles with drawers and shelves. You may prefer a console with a simple metal frame and flat top surface. No matter what your style is we have the console table you need to complete your space. We know you will find a console table you’ll love at House & Garden and we’re sharing our top tips for styling your favourite new statement piece of furniture.

1. Where’s It Going

There are so many places around the home that a console table will work in functionally. A console table is ideal for offloading keys and phones as you first enter your hallway. Our favourite way to use console tables is just inside the front door as a decorative piece. A console table can be placed in an alcove in any room or used as a simplified buffet in your dining area. If you want to be extra creative you can try using your console table in the bedroom as a dressing table or option for displaying photo frames.

We often see console tables used in kitchens as extra meal preparation area. Many of our customers use them as storage for plates, glassware and cutlery. Adding baskets underneath to store your vegetables or use it as a freestanding wine rack if the need calls. We commonly have customer ask for console tables as extra bench space in a home office where you can combine style and functionality easily.

2. Choose One Statement Piece

Bold oversized artwork or a mirror or clock are the most frequently used pieces to anchor your console to a space and should be the second thing you choose after selecting your console table. This will make your table pop and make it blend into the décor seamlessly. You can extend the dimension of your console table by adding an armchair at one end to pull your arrangement together nicely.

3. Bring Light To The Situation

Lamps and candles are a very traditional and strong way to add texture to your new console table. Light will reflect off each other décor piece on the table and add depth and warmth to the space. You can select a boldly coloured lamp to bring attention to the table. Or you may prefer a more classic metallic style lamp with softer shades. For longer console tables you may be able to fit a lamp on either end creating a beautiful sense of symmetry and formality to your space. This is particularly true if you choose to place your console table in your hallway entry or formal dining or living room.

4. Balancing Act

There are so many ways you can bring balance to the top of your console table. You can add wall art or lamps on top, placing one on each end. We also love the look of adding matching sculptures or greenery to add balance to a longer style console table. Doubling up on features is a great way to create flair and artful vibes. You can pick matching or colour coordinated lamps or sculptures to frame the ends of the table. Creating a pigeon pair by placing two pieces of art from the same series on the wall is a wonderful way to add streamline your space. This will help it look uncluttered and well thought out.

5. Go Natural

Select a natural or organic element to your console table to complete your look. We love using books and boxes as functional and stylish pieces or even artificial greenery to boost your décor. We love the look of placing a vase of stunning stems on top of a stack of books or magazines. This will add beauty and a great visual aesthetic to the room. Styling vertically will also assist in making sure your console table doesn’t look cluttered which can overcomplicate your new piece of furniture.
