Why We Love Eco-Friendly Products

People from all walks of life generally want to give their family the best. We’re looking at the reasons why we love eco-friendly products. This is where eco-friendly and reusable products come in because you can offer your family and our planet the best of the best. When we look at day to day life, there are so many ways we can reduce, reuse and recycle.

Eco-friendly simply describes a product that is not harmful to the environment. There are so many benefits to using these products aside from the health, safety and wellbeing of your loved ones. The advantages extend out to the whole world and over time makes a huge difference.

Here we look at five easy and cost-effective ways to mitigate away from harsh or toxic chemicals to keep our planet healthy and happy!

Kids’ lunchboxes, flasks and containers

When we think about the number of children across the world who go to school every day with lunchboxes filled with their daily nutritional needs, it’s easy to then think of how much waste goes with them. Packages, plastic, containers, foil and other wrappings line the bins at the end of the day.

Why not opt for a lunchbox and containers that can be used every day? Or take your soup to work in a reusable flask. It’s so easy to chop up your fruit and pop it into smaller containers that are then brought home and cleaned. There are so many products on the market now that don’t include inner packaging so simply filling reusable containers inside lunchboxes can reduce wrap wastage significantly. Just another reason why we love eco-friendly products.

Travel mugs and water bottles

Ever walked into a petrol station and had a good look at how many plastic bottles are sitting in their fridges? How many times a week do you order a coffee from the local barista and walk away with yet another disposable coffee cup in your grip? It is convenient and most claim to be produced from some recycled products which is a great start. But there’s a better way.

Stainless steel water bottles with air tight lids and travel / coffee mugs are becoming increasingly popular. The kids take them to school, mums and dads everywhere are talking them on walks or in the car, and retailers sell them by the truck load. And for good reason!

Refilling your bottle is easy and will stay the temperature you want with a good quality vessel. Washing and keeping your reusable travel mug is also simple – most of them can be put in the dishwasher or take mere seconds to wash out. Think of all the plastic and card being saved with every mug! Mind boggling …

Wraps, covers, storage pockets and lids

We no longer need to cover our leftovers from picnics, dinners and parties with metres of cling wrap. There are so many options on the market for effective food covering and storage that you need never buy environmentally un-friendly cling wrap ever again!

You can source reusable lids, wraps, storage pockets and covers from a huge range of retailers (including House & Garden!) to keep your food as fresh, if not fresher. There are beeswax coated wraps available that you can use to wrap sandwiches and other fresh foods to keep them safe and sound in lunch boxes or the fridge. You really do have a serious amount of options when it comes to eco food storage.

Most products are designed to either use suction or adequately seal the dish to make sure your food lasts beautifully. They sit tightly around the edge to ensure no air gets inside and can easily be washed for future use.

Shopping bags

We’ve all seen supermarkets around the country offering reusable plastic bags for groceries. Remember those old-school plastic bags that end up flying down the street on a windy day. You will also find a range of canvas, hessian and cotton bags in loads of stores, not just grocery stores.

For a nominal fee, you can get yourself an array of colourful bags including freezer / cold bags. You can stash them in your car boot ready for next time, the time after that and the time after that! Why we would continue to use and dispose of plastic bags when we can make a major difference just by reusing the same bag each time we shop? Makes sense, right?

Cleaning

Perhaps the biggest category of them all, given the amount of chemicals used every day for keeping things clean. Why not choose cleaning cloths that can be washed time and time again. Why would we choose sponges that get thrown away. We love the idea of using dusting brushes and microfiber cloths that will get the job done. You don’t actually have to use a disposable wipe that serves one use only.

Remember, House & Garden stocks a huge range of eco-friendly and reusable products and tools designed to make life as simple and eco-friendly as possible. If you want to know why we love eco-friendly products, shop online to see our amazing range.
